A Great Long Weekend

Nate and I just made it back to the QC, about an hour ago, and I thought this would be a great chance to blog about our Thanksgiving. We had a lot of fun being able to spend time with both families and friends.

When we got home on Wednesday we headed to the bowling alley to help celebrate Nate's cousin Jermey's Birthday. It was only my second time in the bowling alley, and I have to say I loved it. It has the great small town atmosphere. It was great to see everyone and have some time to catch up. We also made it out the Five Mile House, which was nice because I was able to meet up with a few highschool friends as well. As hard as it is we always like try and get as much time to see both family and friends while we are home. The weekends there just go way to fast.

On Thursday we had lunch at Nate's Aunt Shelley's house. The food was GREAT, and afterwards we stuck around to play a game with his cousins. After that we headed to my house for the evening to see my Mom, Dad, Sister Lisa, her husband Jake, and my little brother Andrew. We had a fun time playing card games with them.

Friday Nate headed back to his house to help out with Christmas lights while I headed to town to visit my Grandma. She has been wanting me to stop by since Nate and I got engaged to pick out what quilt Nate and I would like for our wedding. My Grandma has cross-stiched a quilt for every grand child when we were born, and a large one when we get married. Grandma sure did give Lisa and I some laughs as she made Andrew go up and down the stairs to bring down about 15 different quilts, and had Lisa and I put them all on the bed so I could see how they would look on a bed. I found that I really like, and I cannot wait to recieve it!

That night we had game night at Nate's families house. It started out with the boys playing poker so Christina and I played Yahtzee for while. Nate's nephew Jase had a great time rolling the dice and telling us how many points he got as well. We had a good night of games and lots of laughing.

Saturday was Thanksgiving at my house. My brother Steven, his wife Amber, and two kids Meagen and Zander came home. We spent most of the day playing games yesterday too. Meagen just cracks me up. She is three years old now and I cannot believe how much she knows. Zander is now walking and getting into trouble himself.

We had a great Thanksgiving, and we are very thankful for all of the great family and friends that we have. Now on to Christmas!

Busy Days

Nate cannot believe how long it has taken me write this second blog. I was so happy about starting it that I think he thought for sure I would be a daily blogger. The truth is, we have been incredibly busy. Where to begin?

Last Saturday, we made a trip to Iowa City to have a friend of mine here in Davenport take some pictures of us around Iowa's campus. Nate and I had a blast, and we cannot wait to see the pictures. It was a lot of fun to walk around and see a lot of the landmarks that we experienced together four years ago when we first met. We even took some pictures in front of the building that we first met. Not to mention Kinnick stadium, perhaps one of our most favorite places. I am sure that we will love them!

That evening we went to see Dane Cook. Our tickets were for the 23rd row on the floor. When we arrived it was packed! There line was out the door. When it comes to knowing directions, I definitely am I the one who has a better sense of it. So after Nate "took the scenic way" to the iwireless center, I was definitely ready to get inside and get settled. After finally making it to the front of the line, the lady told us that we had to go talk to the ticket office. Our seats had been relocated! We ended up only being 11 rows from the stage. It was a lot of fun, and Nate and I always enjoy a good laugh.

The week is usually busy for both Nate and I. Nate is finally in the Clinic, so he has appointments and I work until 6pm. My work is currently relocating to join another clinic, so my boss and I have been busy making arrangements for that.

This Thursday Nate and I made it out to meet up with my boss, her husband, and a couple from Palmer that are graduating and moving away. Then Friday night, we had tickets to see another comedian here in town, Jon Lajoie. We went with another couple from Palmer, and we absolutely loved him. I think we laughed more for him than Dane Cook. Jon Lajoie does a lot youtube videos if you would like to check out some of him work.

Saturday, we helped Becky move out of our apartment. She came here 5 months ago for an internship, and I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. We really enjoyed having her live with us for the last 3 weeks, and already feel like our apartment is more empty without her. After that we spent a lot of our day rearranging our apartment, and I got the Christmas tree up!

We are both really ready to head home and see our families this weekend! I love Thanksgiving, and I cannot wait to share it with everyone I care about the most!

The Kickoff

Welcome! I have never ever really thought of blogging before, but after reading some friend's blogs I decided I wanted to start one myself. I think this will be a great way for everyone to experience Nate and my life since we are so far away from home. Also, it will be fun to look back on and remember these busy months before our wedding.

So to start off, I would like to tell a little story about my luck. I have never really considered myself a lucky person, but for some reason this last week I have been feeling like some luck might be coming my way. Usually when they offer free tickets on the radio to caller ten, I just listen in and wait to see who wins. It started about a week ago now that I decided I was going to make a call. My first attempt was for Taylor Swift tickets (and I do not even listen to her music), but no such luck there. After that it was a gift certificate to a restaurant here in town, followed by Mallard's tickets (hockey team), and then Dane Cook tickets.

Nate and I had really wanted to go an see Dane Cook, but unfortunately it just wasn't in our budget with planning a wedding and him in school. So when I called yesterday and they were looking for caller ten, and I was called number 2 and then caller number 6, I decided that maybe I should just give up on my luck. This morning as I was leaving for work however I heard the cue to call again and gave it one last shot. The phone rang... and rang.... and rang...........and rang for 2 and 1/2 minutes. Just as I was about to give up I heard someone answer the line. They said hello and my response was "Please lie to me and tell me I'm called number ten!" After they drug it on for about a minute or so they informed me that sure enough I was called number ten! I couldn't believe it. Anyways Nate and I are really excited to go see Dane Cook this Saturday night, and we even have floor seats!

I think that this experience was exactly what I needed. Just a little reminder that when you think and act positively good things will come to you! I am not so sure it was luck as much as persitance and the inability to give up.

I am not sure how that went for a first blog, but I promise that they will get better as I go! :)
